Alternative Access

When the ability to directly touch a speech generating device is not possible, alternative access methods to generate speech must be sought.
Alternative access methods to consider could include: switch use and scanning, head pointing, head tracking, eye gazing and others.

EyeTech SGD
  • EyeTech SGD is a mouse replacement device designed for Microsoft Windows 98/XP.
  • It allows the user to place the mouse pointer anywhere on the screen simply by looking at the desired location.
  • "Clicking" can be done with an eye blink, a hardware switch, or by staring (dwell).
  • The software is designed to run in the background while the user is working with standard Windows applications.
Quick Glance has been used for writing, surfing the Web, computer-aided design, games, and much more.
Intelli Switch
  • Is an easy and flexible switch interface.
  • Simply install the driver software, plug a switch into one of IntelliSwitch’s five switch ports, and plug the receiver into your computer’s USB port.
  • Users can then access switch software with one or more switches - wirelessly!
  • Compatible with Discover software, Intellitools software, and most self scanning software.
IntelliKeys
  • IntelliKeys is a programmable alternative keyboard for students or adults who have difficulty using a standard keyboard.
  • It plugs into a computer’s USB port, providing computer access to individuals with physical, visual, or cognitive disabilities.
  • IntelliKeys is the most flexible computer access device available today.
  • It enhances access to any computer program that responds to keyboard and mouse input.
Tracker Pro
  • Operates from the USB port of your computer or compatible AAC device and gives you the freedom to be completely mobile without need of battery packs or power adapters.
  • Was developed to give mouse control to people with Quadriplegia, Cerebral Palsy, Multiple Sclerosis, Muscular Dystrophy, ALS, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and any other disability where the user has little or no control of their hands to use a standard mouse.
HeadMouse®Extreme
  • HeadMouse® Extreme replaces a standard computer mouse for people who cannot use their hands.
  • It operates from the top of a computer monitor, laptop computer, or augmentative communication device, and measures the user's head movements.
  • The wireless sensing technology employs infrared light to track a small disposable target that is placed on the user's forehead or glasses.
